Join our team for a talk on the renowned Birkenhead artist, Philip Wilson Steer, with a guide through his life and works. This will be followed by a private viewing of paintings not usually on public display.
Philip Wilson Steer was one of the first British artists to look for France for inspiration. As Professor of Art at the Slade School of Art for over 30 years, he had an important influence on generations of 20th-century artists. He was the first living artist to be given a retrospective at the Tate, in 1929.
We have 48 of Steer’s works in our collection, covering all stages of his career, and these 45-minute talks will introduce you to the career of this significant locally-born figure.
Talks will take place at 11am on Thursday 12th (SOLD OUT), Friday 13th (SOLD OUT- RESCHEDULED TO FRIDAY 27TH) Saturday 14th September as part of Wirral Heritage Open Days.
