Join ceramicist Jacob Chan for a Saturday afternoon talk and demonstration. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about Chan’s process and the inspirations behind his work.
Chan is based in Birkenhead, and his work is heavily based around his cultural background and heritage. Being half Chinese and half English his ceramics take inspiration from traditional Chinese shapes and forms, whilst the surfaces are heavily decorated in slips and oxides that contain other raw materials such as sand, slate and broken pottery collected from around the coastlines and mountain ranges of Britain. He uses these materials to represent his Western culture and his cultural journey through his creativity.
We recently acquired a brand new work by Chan – a Foo Dog, which can currently be found in our Foyer.
