This Black History Month, Williamson Art Gallery has been working with Afrograph to address its collection’s slavery links.
African textiles from Afrograph’s collection have been used to reinterpret the Arrowe Hall collection in Gallery 7, and reclaim the narrative.
Activities:
Workshops: On Saturday 26th October at 10.30am-12.30pm and then 2-3pm there will be African textile workshops led by Suzie Goligher. Participants will be asked to create pictures of local landmarks using African textiles. FREE, no booking required
Talk: “What has Slavery got to do with the Williamson?” by Alex Robinson Hon. Fellow University of Liverpool. 2nd November 2024, 1.30pm. FREE, no need to booki. The Williamson holds furniture and paintings from Arrowe Hall. See how Arrowe Park became caught up in the tentacles of Slavery.
