Winners of 2024 Williamson open revealed

annual exhibition reveals its winning artists from liverpool city region

On Thursday 15th February we hosted the Opening Night and Prizegiving of The Williamson Open 2024. Open to all artists in the Liverpool City Region, this annual exhibition has been celebrating the work of local artists for over 60 years.

The judges for 2024 were Niall Hodson and Kirsty Hill from the Williamson exhibitions team, 2023's Prizewinning artist Lucy Elizabeth Jones, and Liverpool-based artist Gareth Kemp. The judging process involved some difficult decisions about which artworks would work together as a unified exhibition, and then of these which one deserved the top prizes and to be highly commended.

180 works in total are featured in the exhibition. After much deliberation, the judges selected two works to share the Art Prize, and one for the Photography Prize.

The winners of the Art Prize in 2024 are:

'Cottage With Rainbow (After Cottage At East Bergholdt By Constable)' by Nathan Pendlebury.

'Untitled (no. 7)' by Jonathan Pountain.

The winner of the Photography Prize is

'"A Great British Summer", New Brighton Beach 2022' by Hannah Cassidy.

Congratulations to all three! Their work will enter the Williamson collections once the 2024 Open Exhibition closes.

In addition to the winners, four artists were Highly Commended by the judges - you can view these pictures in the gallery below. These were:

'Aleppo 2016' by Ceri Rhys Jones.

'Le Mont (Cezanne's Obsession)' by Paul Mellor.

'View near 4 Bridges, Birkenhead' by Lawrie Quigley.

'The Joker' by Richard Roberts (photography).

The Williamson Open 2024 continues until 16th March 2024. Most work is available to purchase, and we offer the Own Art Scheme which makes purchasing original artworks more affordable by making it possible to pay in 10 equal, interest-free monthly payments.
