Denise Brown was a British artist renowned for her mastery of traditional etching techniques, working well into the late 20th century when many had moved to more modern methods. She trained at the Royal College of Art in 1935 under two of Britain’s most respected engravers, Malcolm Osborne and Robert Sargent Austin, both of whom were pivotal figures in the British etching revival. In 1936 she won the prestigious Rome Scholarship in Engraving and a Travelling Scholarship.
