About this objectThis work is part of a creative commission by the socially engaged photographer Marge Bradshaw following the 'Going to the Match On Tour' exhibition at the Williamson. Across December 2024, Marge joined Liverpool Trans and Enby FC, a football club and safe space for Trans and Non-Binary footballers, at their training sessions to capture players’ stories and experiences at the grassroots club.
Through documentary, portrait and alternative process photography, her approach amplifies the voices of trans and non-binary players who are typically under-represented in football narratives. By working closely with the club and with care, the exhibition positively represents LGBTQ+ footballers and aims to foster greater understanding and inclusion.
When interviewed about the project, Robin gave the following response:
“Football means the world to me. It lets me express myself, makes me feel powerful, confident and in control, and provides an escape where I'm not thinking about anything else other than what's happening on the pitch. I used to play for Dublin Devils, an all LGBTQ+ team Dublin, so
when I moved to Liverpool, the first thing I did was find a football team I could join. I was so excited when I found Liverpool Trans and Enby FC, because I’d only ever met a few trans football players before. I immediately got really involved and wanted to be a big part of it, to help other trans people grow in their football. Football’s a very masculine part of me, and I’ve previously found it hard to justify that with my transness and femininity. I felt like these were two totally different parts of me that I couldn't ‘be’ at the same time. Playing with Liverpool Trans and Enby FC has fixed that for me in a lot of ways. It gives me a space where I can be entirely myself. I know I’m good at it, and nobody can take
that away from me.”
