About this objectNicholas Horsfield was one of the most consequential artists in the Post-War artistic landscape of Liverpool. A lot of this was in thanks to his role as a teacher at the Liverpool School of Art between 1956 and 1982, but much can also be placed down to his distinctive artistic style.
This can be seen in this drawing, where the artist has an intentionally scribbled, and almost abstract style of draughtsmanship. An interesting detail is Horsfield’s use of dots in his figurative works. He would place dots around the page, denoting key areas of his figure to maintain the correct scale and perspective, with his scribbles then filling the gaps.
