About this objectAlthough primarily a painter of landscapes, Nicholas Horsfield also practiced life drawing throughout his career. Works such as this one showcase his distinctive and anarchic style of draughtsmanship, with chaotic, scribbled drawings.
This work, made in 1947, comes from before the most notable positions in his career. The first being his role as Arts Council’s regional arts officer for the North West, which he served in from 1948 to 1956. He would leave this role for a teaching post at the Liverpool College of Art from 1956 to 1982.
