Name/TitleFrom My Studio Window
About this objectArtists have long used windows as symbolic thresholds, barriers separating the safety of the interior from the disorder of the world beyond. Viewed through this tradition, Rawlinson’s treatment of the motif resists such clear division. The window spans the composition, while much of the surrounding plant life resides within the artist’s room itself. Rather than reinforcing a boundary, Rawlinson appears to collapse it, suggesting a more porous, integrated relationship between his studio and curated wildness of his garden.
