Name/TitleMadame Le Brun, Florence
About this objectThis painting is a nineteenth‑century copy by the Florentine artist Tibaldo Turri of Élisabeth Vigée‑LeBrun’s celebrated self‑portrait, now in the Uffizi. Vigée‑LeBrun (1755–1842) was one of the most successful portraitists of her age and a favoured painter of Marie‑Antoinette. A royalist sympathiser, she fled France during the Revolution in 1789 and was warmly received in Florence. There she was invited to contribute to the Uffizi’s renowned collection of artists’ self‑portraits. Turri’s copy reflects the popularity of Vigée‑LeBrun’s image and was likely produced for the tourist market
