About this objectDuring his time as a student at Wallasey School of Art, Albert Richards created a number of wood-block and lithograph prints. These printing techniques were used widely in the 1930s, and can commonly be seen in film posters and book covers from this decade. The graphic style of printing lent itself well to Art Deco and surrealism. 'Birkenhead Ferry - A Surrealistic Study' is visually similar to his later war paintings, due to Richards' use of parachute imagery, seen in the background of this piece.
