About this objectEtching created by Rembrandt which depicts the Holland's chief tax collector, Jan Uytenbogaert (1608–1680), at the time of its creation. The work features Uytenbogaert in its centre, surrounded by signs of his wealth and importance, such as servants, a painting in the background, as well as scales and a ledger on a table next to him.
This work may have been completed as a sign of gratitude to Uytenbogaert. Both were avid collectors of prints, and likely met during the 1630s, Uytenbogaert aided Rembrandt in purchasing a house that he did not have the down payment for.
