About this objectThis print is part of a series designed by James Giddins as part of the 'Art in Industry' year of 1986. The project was nationwide and attempted to change attitudes, knowledge, and awareness of industry, prompted by the UK being ranked below other nations in the major industrial league. On a local level, Unilever provided resources to three artists, Christine Kowal Post, Christine Leadbetter, and Giddins, to create artworks related to their factories and to run workshops for local students, with work to be displayed in an exhibition at the Williamson.
Giddins was inspired by the scenery of the industrial environments that he worked in. He took residencies at PPF International and Unichema Chemical Works, sketching the landscapes and scenes before going back to his studio to create prints such as this one.
