About this objectThis print is part of a series designed by James Giddins as part of the 'Art in Industry' year of 1986. The project was nationwide and attempted to change attitudes, knowledge, and awareness of industry, prompted by the UK being ranked below other nations in the major industrial league. On a local level, Unilever provided resources to three artists, Christine Kowal Post, Christine Leadbetter, and Giddins, to create artworks related to their factories and to run workshops for local students, with work to be displayed in an exhibition at the Williamson.
This particular print depicts the Unichema Chemical Plant run by Unilever. Giddins' challenge with this work was to fit the sprawling towers of the plant into such a small space, something he achieves through the arching of their form.
