About this objectThis print is part of a series designed by James Giddins as part of the 'Art in Industry' year of 1986. The project was nationwide and attempted to change attitudes, knowledge, and awareness of industry, prompted by the UK being ranked below other nations in the major industrial league. On a local level, Unilever provided resources to three artists, Christine Kowal Post, Christine Leadbetter, and Giddins, to create artworks related to their factories and to run workshops for local students, with work to be displayed in an exhibition at the Williamson.
These vessels, used to make food flavourings at PPF International, were a common theme in the printmaking project of Giddins. He said in one interview at the time of the project: "I was fascinated with the mixing vessels... they reminded me of big spiders!"
