Name/TitleDecorative Panel for Bourton House (Ske)
About this objectBy the turn of the 20th Century, Steer was experiencing greater commercial success. He was commissioned to create decorative schemes for country houses. This work is a preparatory sketch for one of these commissioned decorative schemes.
Two sketchy figures can be made out; a woman reaching her hand towards her head, and a man reclining under a tree. By economically applying broader and freer brushstrokes, the artist skilfully creates an impression of a pastoral scene.
