About this objectThis work is part of a sketchbook that contains Richards’ early student works, created between 1935-1939 during his time at Wallasey School of Art. These works consist of heraldry illustrations - drawings of shields, crests, coats of arms and mediaeval lettering, using pencil and watercolour wash. While these illustrations are noticeably different to his later works, heraldry was a common subject taught at art schools during and prior to the 20th century.
