Visits to the Williamson are free of charge for schools during the hours that we are open to the public. This is currently Wednesday and Thursday 10.30am – 5.00pm, Friday, 10.30am – 9.00pm and Saturday 10.00am – 4.30pm. We ask that you book your visit in advance.
We are not able to accommodate visits on Mondays and Tuesdays, when we are closed to the public.
School visits to the Williamson are self-led. A member of staff will welcome you to the gallery and give you a class set of 30 clipboards and any resources that you have requested, then we will leave you to explore.
A space for leaving bags and eating packed lunches can be arranged for £25 per hour. Please state if you will require this at the time of booking.
We do ask that children are closely supervised at all times and that an adult is with the children in the same room. Children must not be allowed to move from room to room unaccompanied.
Items in our collection are fragile, expensive, old, or all three. Children must be closely supervised to ensure that they do not touch any of the items on display.
Alternatively, our team can lead your session for £99 per hour. Contact us to discuss available sessions and booking arrangements.
When you book your visit, we will send you details of the schools’ resources that we have available at that time.
We can print resources for your visit, at £2.50 per set of 30 double-sided, colour, A4 sheets. If you prefer, you can print them yourself in school and bring them with you.
We provide the loan of 30 clipboards to use during your visit free of charge.
We also offer the loan of a stationery pack for use during your visit at a cost of £10. The stationery pack includes HB and coloured pencils, rubbers and sharpeners for 30 children and 100 sheets of plain, white, A4 paper. The stationery pack is stored in a wheeled trolley so that you can take it with you as you move around the building. Use of the stationery pack must be booked in advance.
We are currently developing a range of sessions led by members the Williamson team, which will enable your pupils to view areas of the collection not on display, such as our Ancient Egyptian collection. Details of these sessions will be published on the Learning at Wirral Museums website as they are made available. If you are interested in discussing the options that are available ahead of their publication on the website, or have any ideas for sessions that you would find useful, please contact our Schools Team on 0151 666 3537 / schoolvisits@wirral.gov.uk
