An open exhibition that has been part of the local arts scene for as long as most of us can remember, The Williamson Open aims to reflect part of the current active visual arts scene in Wirral.
The Williamson Open is open to artists and photographers who have connections with Wirral through birth, education, residency or occupation.
The exhibition will run Saturday 28th March – Sunday 26th April (closed Good Friday 10th April). Like all exhibition at the Williamson, visiting will be free.
The Williamson Open continues a tradition stretching back to 1913, when Birkenhead’s first Museum & Art Gallery held the Birkenhead Spring Exhibition. It was open to local artists, amateur and professional alike, to enter work on an equal footing and from that event some of the earliest pictures in the gallery’s collection were selected.
The present exhibition is run on the same footing, but now also open to photographers as well as to artists in paint, pencil, collage, print, textiles, digital media, ceramics and sculpture. Prizes are awarded separately in the Art and Photography categories. As visitors you can also vote for the winner of the Kriterion Prize, who will be announced towards the end of the exhibition.
