About This Project

Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972 – talk on the evening of January 17th is part of a series of evening monthly lectures looking more closely at some over lesser seen treasures .

The 1972 Olympic Games was a cultural milestone in the field of visual communication, with its emphasis on engaging diverse audiences worldwide. Games Design Director, Otl Aicher, commissioned over 30 international artists to produce a set of posters to accompany his visionary identity system which set the standard for future Olympic design schemes and ‘international’pictograms.

The Williamson owns a set of the poster collection, which includes works by David Hockney, Max Bill, R.B.Kitaj, and many others. During the talk, the museums poster will be unveiled to the public for the first time. they will be used to form the basis of a discussion on inclusion and accessibility in the area of visual communication.
