Winners of the ‘Tourism Team of the Year Award’ – The Williamson Art Gallery

For this award the judges were looking for excellent team working, with people supporting each other, delivering seamless service and with a good ‘Team Spirit and a good knowledge of their own establishment and Wirral in general.

The judges felt that the winning team had created a unique atmosphere, with warmth, openness and support. They are passionate and proud of the work they do and have made the venue the beating heart of the community. Even under financial pressures, the team have taken the opportunity to grow their offer, to widen their appeal.

Wirral’s tourism economy is currently worth over £327million; it employs 4,600 full-time equivalent jobs and attracts over 7 million day visitors and short breakers each year.

Each finalist met with an independent category judge, who selected a winner.

Wirral’s tourism heroes have been celebrated at the sector’s annual awards ceremony.

More than 250 tourism professionals, including those from the Wirral Tourism Business Network (WTBN), gathered at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre for the prestigious Wirral Tourism Awards.

The Awards reflect the very best of Wirral’s tourism sector, recognizing the quality, achievements and continuous hard work of the individuals and teams behind the success.

Eric Robinson, Chief Executive of Wirral Council said:

I was honoured to attend last night’s awards ceremony, which was a valuable opportunity to learn more about the borough, its people and its businesses.”

“I’d like to congratulate all of the businesses and staff who were nominated this year. Just being nominated shows how highly valued they are by their customers.

“Wirral’s tourism businesses reinforce what the borough has to offer.”

Big winners on the night included Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, which was named Wirral Tourism Ambassador for their work before and during The Open Championship in 2014.

Tourism in Wirral is one of the faster growing industries in the city region. Wirral’s tourist industry has grown by over 30% over the past 5 years and is now worth over £327million to the borough’s economy, employing some 4,600 individuals.
