• A much loved painting

About the Artist/Exhibition

“By Request” is an exhibition of oil paintings from our collection, chosen by our audience, during a consultation period in the Transformation Station.

Learning officer, Kathy Heywood working with the Museums Association and local artist, Joseph Venning, has created a room called the Transformation Station about asking what you – our lovely visitors and we – the staff and volunteers would like to contribute to the look and feel of aspects of the gallery and museum.

One of Kathy’s questions in the newly decorated room of murals, was “what painting would you most like to see on display from our collection” and the replies have been used to select works for a short exhibition “By Request”. The Williamson’s collection of oil paintings are listed on our pages on the website Art UK , and in the The Public Catalogue Foundation  “Oil Paintings in Public Ownership – Merseyside”  book viewable by visiting Gallery Six – the Transformation Station .

Our future exhibitor, Steve des Landes (and many others) has chosen a work from our collection by Albert Chevallier Tayler (1862-1925) called “Not lost but gone before” from 1886 and is an oil on canvas. It is a painting, like his own work that tells a story and one wonders what has happened before this poignant moment was captured so skilfully.

Initially in Gallery Thirteen but will relocate to Gallery One and expand to encompass more requests.

The galleries are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, but staff shortages may necessitate early closure of some rooms at the end of the day.
